After obtaining a BSc. Agric (Honors) degree from the University of the Orange Free State, Leon lectured for two years at an Agricultural college and then headed the Animal Production Department in Lebowa.

In 1992 he started farming outside Musina and during November 1999 bought his first sable cows, after which he systematically searched for animals to improve his herd. In the process, Leon acquired exceptional breeding bulls: Stamper (45”), Dark (47”) and their current bulls John (47.5”) and Verwoerd (48”).

During 2013 they bought a beautiful farm outside Port Alfred (Eastern Cape) which forms part of a 45 000 ha conservation area and have since moved some of their sable and buffalo there. Both his sons form part of their farming activities to make it a family enterprise. Natie manages the farms in Musina while Werner is in the Eastern Cape, mainly doing their marketing.

Leon is proud to, after 19 years, have succeeded in breeding sable females reaching 30+“ horns, and bulls with 46” horns at only 4 years of age.

As a game breeder honesty and integrity are of cardinal importance to Leon. He treats all his buyers accordingly and is always prepared to assist them with advice.
